On October 14, 2023, America caught “Eclipse Fever.” We lived in Chicago, and rather than drive one hour to see totality from Indiana, I thought it would be fine to check out the 95% coverage we would enjoy from our home. 

Was I wrong. 

Two months later while planning a vacation, I told my wife I would prefer to go somewhere around August 2026, when I knew there would be an eclipse over Spain and Greenland (both places I was willing to go in August). Sure enough, she found a cruise from Barcelona to Lisbon starting August 16, and we booked a flight to get us there on August 11. By now I will be back from the entire adventure, and I cannot wait to share about it with my congregation. I am incredibly excited to see a total eclipse, and very happy to get to spend time with my wife for nearly two weeks.

Even though as of writing this I have not seen a total eclipse, here is what I already have learned:

Do not put off to tomorrow what is easy enough to do today. It may take longer and cost more next time you have the opportunity.

Say yes to witnessing phenomena. The world is a beautiful place, and the universe provides much glory for us to see. Go see it.

May 5787 be full of wonder, quality time with people you love, and opportunities grabbed with both hands.
